A federal judge in Alabama has accepted a plea deal related to allegations that he beat his wife.

Judge Mark Fuller of the Middle District of Alabama faced domestic abuse charges. Fuller was arrested in August when his wife called police and reported that he got drunk and beat her in an Atlanta hotel room.

Under the plea deal, which Fuller’s wife agreed to, Fuller will participate in counseling, a drug and alcohol evaluation, and a weekly domestic violence program for 24 weeks. If he successfully completes the program, the charges will be dropped and his record expunged. Fuller has apologized for the event.

One Birmingham attorney has written U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to recommend that Fuller be removed from the bench.

It has not been a good month for judges in the southern states.
