The UKBA is considering allowing high net worth business passengers to move through passport control more quickly using dedicated passport lanes. The lanes were operational at London Heathrow over the Summer for Olympic VIPs and athletes and could be adapted to service those whom the UKBA considers to be low-risk. The UKBA is keen to avoid a repeat of the long queues which have plagued Heathrow due to staff shortages over the past year. Non high net worth individuals will still be subject to the queues.

It is unclear at this time whether any extra cost would be involved for the passengers. Currently, first-class passengers from some airlines, such as British Airways, are already allowed to use fast track lanes as part of a deal between the airline and the UKBA with the cost built into the flight. This would be potentially extended to business class passengers from all airlines.

More details to follow as they become available.
