An American Wind Energy Association report has documented a significant slowdown in wind energy installations between 2009 and 2010. The “U.S. Wind Industry Year-End 2010 Market Report” says that 9,922 megawatts were installed in 2009, whereas in 2010 installations decreased to 5,115 megawatts. According to the report, 3,195 megawatts were installed in the fourth quarter, and projects representing 5,600 megawatts are currently under construction, setting 2011 on track to have greater capacity installation. Texas led in statewide wind energy capacity followed by Iowa, California, Minnesota, and Washington. See BNA Daily Environment Report, January 26, 2010.
