On 6th April 2011, the Flexible Working (Eligibility, Complaints and Remedies) (Amendment) Regulations 2010 will come into force
What does this mean?
This means that from the 6th April 2011 the right to request flexible working is extended to parents of all children under the age of 18. Prior to the new Regulations the right to request flexible working was restricted to a) parents of children under 17 or 18 who were disabled and/or b) employees who cared for an adult over the age of 18. However, even from the 6th April 2011, this does not mean such employees will have an automatic right to flexible working but rather the right to request it.
What should employers do?
Employers may want to make sure these changes are reflected in company policy and/or employment contracts.
