• On November 25, 2015 the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) issued a revised draft of “Standard for the Management of Packaging and Labeling of Fresh Food in Supermarket.” Public comments were due by December 25. The Standard would apply to a wide range of fresh foods including poultry, livestock products, vegetables, fruit and aquatic products, and contains requirements relating to: packaging requirements and packaging materials; prohibited additives; labeling requirements; operator’s obligations; prohibitive requirements on minced meat products; self-check requirements; and business credit management.
  • On November 26, 2015, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ) released the updated registration catalogue for overseas manufacturers of imported foods. The food categories included in the registration catalogue are required to be registered with Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) prior to the entry into China. Notably, imported bird’s nests have been newly added into the registration catalogue, the registration requirement of which was formally implemented on January 1, 2016.
  • On December 9, 2015, the China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) issued a draft of “Implementation Rules for Food Safety Law”. Public comments are due by January 8, 2016. This draft provides detailed guidance on the new food safety law, which became effective on October 1, as well as other regulations on formula registration of infant formula milk powder and dietary supplement registration and records, which were released in recent months.
