Ontario Regulation 419/05 establishes air quality standards based on environmental and human health impacts. Facilities may apply for site-specific alterations to standards where they are unable to achieve regulatory standards within the specified timelines.
The MOE is now proposing to amend O. Reg. 419/05 to approve sector-wide alterations, in place of facility by facility exemptions. Two specific proposals have been posted for comment over the summer months, including a proposal for the Forest Products sector and a proposal for the Foundry sector. If approved, a facility within these sectors would have the option of following the sector specific exemption and the operational practices set out therein, rather than the default criteria and timelines.
