Although the Lake Erie Energy Development Corporation (LEEDCo) did not win a $47 million federal grant last month (see our May 16, 2014 blog post about this), the developers are moving ahead with plans to install the 18-MW, six wind-turbine Icebreaker project off the shore of Lake Erie. A Midwest Energy News article reports that the Department of Energy (DOE) “has agreed to give LEEDCo at least $3 million to complete engineering and other studies,” in addition to $4 million the DOE awarded the project in 2012. In the article, LEEDCo president Lorry Wagner said, “The most important thing is that we’re still moving forward,” and “[t]he fundamentals of the project are as strong, if not stronger,” than ever.
