Canada is proposing regulatory action to limit the amount of lead contained in specific products that can come in contact with the mouth.
Specifically, the proposed total lead limit is 90 mg of lead per kilogram for the following:
- products, other than kitchen utensils, whose normal pattern of use requires that they be brought to the user's mouth; and
- products in respect of which it is reasonably foreseeable, based on their nature, that they would be used by children under three years of age in learning or play.
The proposal provides a non-exhaustive list of the affected products.
- Consumer Products Containing Lead (Contact with Mouth) Regulations
- Order Amending Part II of Schedule I to the Hazardous Products Act (Consumer Products Containing Lead - Contact with Mouth)
