Following a consultation, the ICO published its new data protection guidance for the media on 4 September 2014. The ICO has stated that the guidance provides a practical tool for all levels of the media and explains how the DPA applies to journalism. The guidance sets out the basic principles and obligations, advises on good practice, and clarifies the exemption for journalism. It also explains what happens when someone complains, and the role and powers of the ICO.
