In the past week:
- Neelie Kroes spoke at the BBA Annual Conference on whether government support worked in the banking crisis. She explained why support was necessary and why restructuring must follow state aid. She looked at some issues that arose in the light of the crisis and discussed where there had been regulatory failure. She stressed the need for working together on a solution; and
- Charlie McCreevy spoke on what the EU is doing to protect financial services consumers. He focused on mortgage credit and guarantee scheme initiatives.
