The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has given the green light to FirstEnergy Corp. to test the feasibility of the underground storage of carbon dioxide. Yesterday, Ohio EPA announced that they had approved a permit for FirstEnergy to proceed with a pilot project that would involve pumping approximately 3,000 tons of carbon dioxide into three underground saline formations. The project will take place at the R.E. Burger Power Plant along the Ohio River and will be overseen by The Department of Energy.
