Under an Ohio Department of Insurance (ODI) bulletin that became effective November 2, 2009, insurance companies and agents are required to notify ODI in the event of a “loss of control” of policyholder information. Bulletin 2009-12 requires such notification within 15 calendar days of discovery of the loss of control and the reporting requirement applies to situations involving the loss of personal information of more than 250 Ohio residents.
