Yesterday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) appointed former Securities and Exchange Commissioner Paul S. Atkins to the Congressional Oversight Panel (COP), which, among other roles, oversees the Treasury Department's management of the Troubled Asset Relief Program. Mr. Atkins will replace former New Hampshire Republican Senator John Sununu, who stepped down from the bipartisan five-member COP in July. COP Chair Elizabeth Warren stated that "Paul Atkins will bring valuable insights to the Congressional Oversight Panel's efforts to increase the accountability of the Troubled Asset Relief Program"
