The Equality and Human Rights Commission is not meeting its potential, according to a recent review carried out by the UK government. The review makes a number of recommendations to improve the EHRC's effectiveness, including that it should focus more on its role as an enforcer and regulator of equality law. The EHRC is currently working on its next strategic plan due in 2019 and it may look to step up its enforcement action against employers. However, its budget has shrunk significantly over the last 10 years or so and is reducing again in 2019 so it will need to develop an enforcement plan on limited resources.
