On 1 March 2007 the European Commission published a press notice advising that it had published its annual Progress Report on the Single Market in Financial Services (the Report). The Report highlights the Commission's achievements in 2006.
At paragraph 2.5.1 of the Report there is a brief section that covers the Commission's progress in 2006 on implementing MiFID.
At paragraph 2.5.5 of the Report there is a paragraph on the formation of the European Securities Markets Expert Group. This Group will review how EU securities Directives are applied in practice, determine whether or not they are delivering the intended results and will propose changes where necessary. The Report mentions that the Group will provide the Commission with input for the reports on the application of various provisions of MiFID, the Prospectus Directive, the Market Abuse Directive and the Transparency Directive.
