The Equality Challenge Unit's latest publications include a briefing on the application of the Equality Act to university and college activity overseas.  We're proud to have assisted the ECU by drafting the briefing, with input from the Scots perspective by Anderson Strathern.  The briefing is available on the ECU website.

Also published is a briefing on the specific duties for English HEIs under the public sector equality duties of the Equality Act 2010.  Each HEI subject to the duty will need to:

  • publish information to demonstrate its compliance with the equality duty (by 31 January 2012); and
  • prepare and publish (by 6 April 2012) one or more specific and measurable objective that it should achieve to meet any of the three aims of the equality duty.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission guidance on the public sector duty is available here.  Earlier posts noted the delay in the publication of the Code of Practice.
