The North Dakota Game and Fish Department has published, for use in oil and gas operations, recommended best management practices (BM Ps) agreed to by industry and conservation representatives. The recommendations include locating facilities in the least sensitive wildlife habitats, clustering wells within the same pad where possible and promptly reclaiming pipelines, expired pads and roads. The recommendations also call for developers to create utility corridors so that common routes can be used for pipelines, keeping above-ground facilities more than a half-mile from golden eagle nesting areas and marking power lines built across wetlands.
