The SEC announced will hold a roundtable about securities lending on September 29 and a roundtable on short sale issues on September 30. The SEC's agenda for the securities lending roundtable includes, among other items, proxy voting, investor protection concerns, transparency and potential regulatory solutions. In its short selling roundtable, the SEC intends to discuss controls on naked short-selling and how to make short sale disclosure more meaningful. Panelists for each roundtable have yet to be announced. These roundtables are a continuation of the SEC's focus on short sales. This focus includes steps to curtail abusive short sales and proposals to restore some version of the "uptick" rule.
