UKBA's drive towards ensuring that educational establishments are fully compliant with the rules of sponsorship is turning increasingly towards universities, many of which are due to file applications to extend their HTS status in the next few weeks.

Therefore, both universities and private education colleges need to ensure that they are fully compliant with UKBA's Highly Trusted Sponsor scheme and educational oversight provisions.

Our education team is retained by a number of universities in relation to HTS and compliance matters. We frequently liaise with senior contacts in UKBA's sponsor licence unit to ensure applications are dealt with expeditiously and fairly, given the unique challenges many universities face as a result of the sheer volume of data they are required to analyse. We also engage with Universities UK and UKCISA to ensure that specific issues are raised at policy level and, most recently, we hosted a meeting at our offices between Universities UK, Study UK and UKBA to review the system of branch and partner institution sponsorship.
