Heineken brewing in Rwanda

According to Rwanda's ambassador to the Netherlands, Jean Pierre Karabaranga, Heineken beer will soon be produced in Rwanda and will be exported throughout the region. It is thought that Heineken (currently brewed in Nigeria or outside Africa) will be brewed by Bralirwa, a Rwanda brewery which is majority owned by Heineken N.V. With its burgeoning middle class and increase in disposable incomes, Africa is an import market for Heineken, the world's second largest brewer.

Hilton enters Rwanda

The Hilton Hotel chain is set to enter Rwanda in early 2018 after the group's takeover of the Ubumwe Grand Hotel in central Kigali. The hotel will undergo some changes in order to rebrand and once open will trade as the 'DoubleTree by Hilton Kigali City Centre'. This recent takeover is part of the Hilton Group's wider push to expand its portfolio in Sub-Saharan Africa with a further 29 hotels in the pipeline. 

Rural Rwanda – Home to a Novel lighting idea

BBOXX, a London based solar energy provider has built a strong foothold in rural Rwanda having brought power to around 130,000 people in the last four years. BBOXX (originally conceived as a not for profit) is now operating as a business, charging customers a monthly fee in return for a solar panels and battery packs. The monthly payment scheme removes the upfront financial barrier (which would otherwise prevent access) and has allowed BBOX to rapidly increase its customer base, demonstrating the potential for innovative payment structures in East Africa.
