The right to request flexible working has been extended to the parents of children aged 16 or under as from 6 April 2009. Until then, the right applies to parents of children under 6 and to carers As a result of this recent change, it is likely that employers will face a greater number of requests for flexible working. As such, employers should ensure they have the relevant systems, for example IT systems to connect from home, and procedures in place in order to deal with these requests.
