Austria is the first of currently twenty five Contracting Member States to ratify the Agreement on a Unified Patent Court. The ratification phase was opened on February 29, 2013, when representatives of the twenty five Member States signed the agreement.

In accordance with Art. 89 of the Agreement, the Agreement comes into force once thirteen Contracting Member States have nationally ratified the agreement. It is a prerequisite that the UK, Germany and France are among these (first) thirteen ratifying Member State
