While California is seeking the ability to regulate greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles, it appears that the White House may be working on national rules for regulating GHGs from automobiles. At a meeting of the Western Governors Association, Carol Browner said, “The hope across the administration is that we can have a unified national policy when it comes to cleaner vehicles.” The policy has not been made official by the White House; so, it remains to be seen whether the White House will take action directly or try to push Congress into taking action.
