The Saudi Press Agency reported on 23 June that H.M. King Abdulla bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has issued Royal Order No. O/185 changing the Saudi Arabian weekend from the current Thursday / Friday to Friday / Saturday.
The change applies as follows:
- Effective Saturday 29 June 2013, the new Friday / Saturday weekend applies to all Saudi Arabian governmental bodies including the Ministries, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency and all financial institutions, as well as the Capital Market Authority and Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul);
- Effective for the 2013-14 Academic Year, the new Friday / Saturday weekend applies to all Saudi Arabian academic institutions including school and universities.
This change brings the Kingdom’s working week in line with that of the other member states of the Cooperation Council of the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC).
The Law Office of Mohanned bin Saud Al-Rasheed in Association with Baker Botts L.L.P. will begin to observe the new working week effective immediately.
