We’ve all heard the saying: “there’s an app for that.” The number of services, products and businesses at our fingertips continues to grow rapidly in this day and age. One relatively new service to Ohio is the app-based ride service offered by companies such as Lyft and UberX. These services offer an alternative to taxi service — and competition for traditional taxi drivers.
While users may rejoice in the advent of this new option for car service, the business model of these companies has created legal issues with city governments. The city of Columbus recently filed suits against both companies.
Unchartered territory can be a double-edged sword for a business — the future of these app-based companies, at least in Columbus, is yet to be determined.
