Michigan Governor Granholm announced in her State of the State address that she would like Michigan to move toward a renewable energy future. In her address, she called for a 45 percent reduction in coal, gas, and oil-fired power by 2020. She said, "we'll be spending our energy dollars on Michigan wind turbines, Michigan solar panels, Michigan energy efficiency devices — all designed, manufactured and installed by Michigan workers." Several of the policies were put into motion already under the terms of the Governor's executive directive.
