On June 27, Secretary of Health and Human Services ("HHS"), Kathleen Sebelius, announced that the Office of Civil Rights ("OCR") will now have authority to enforce the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act ("HIPPA") security provisions. Previously, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services ("CMS") held this authority. OCR will now have authority over both the privacy and security provisions of HIPAA.

The posting will be officially published in tomorrow's Federal Register.
