Rod Sims delivered a speech entitled ‘Better communicating the ACCC’s role, its approach to reviewing mergers involving small retail acquisitions and the benefits of competition in electricity’.  In particular, Sims’ speech referred to an increased focus on small retail acquisitions in the liquor, grocery, home improvement and petrol sectors and potential procedural changes to the manner in which the ACCC assesses these transactions.  G+T has recently released a more detailed newsletter of the ACCC directions under Sims and of recent trends in ACCC merger analysis.  A copy of it can be found here.
