Late last year, the Minister for Planning appointed an Advisory Committee (Chair, Lester Townsend and Member, Kathryn Navarro) to review and recommend improvements to land use terms and definitions provided in clause 74 of the Victoria Planning Provisions. The Committee released its discussion paper on 27 February 2018.

The discussion paper poses a series of 67 questions for consideration, that canvass questions such as:

  • the definition of dwelling, what ‘self-contained’ means, what’s the difference between ‘dwelling’ and shared accommodation under clause 52.23 and residential building
  • definitions of transfer stations, materials recycling
  • the overlay in definitions between informal outdoor recreation, open sports ground and outdoor recreation facility,

as well as other contentious issues.

If you have a bee in your bonnet regarding definitions, overlap, or the like, now is your chance to have your say. Submissions can be made online and are required to be lodged by close of business on 3 April 2018.
