HIQA, the Health Information and Quality Authority has today published 14 inspection reports on residential centres for older people.

Of the 14 reports published, inspectors found evidence of good practice and compliance with relevant regulations and standards in seven centres. However, evidence of non-compliance was found in seven separate centres where inspectors identified non-compliances in the following areas:

  • health and safety;
  • risk management;
  • documentation;
  • safeguarding;
  • governance and management;
  • suitable staffing;
  • residents’ rights, dignity and consultation.

HIQA independently regulates designated centres for older people for compliance with the Health Act (2007) Regulations and the National Standards for Residential Care Settings for Older People in Ireland (2016).
