The European Commission (Commission) has opened an in-depth review into a scheme organised by the German Land of Saxony under which it provides that guarantees for working capital gains may be granted to all companies with economic activities within Saxony (other than those operating in the fisheries, coal, steel, shipbuilding and synthetic fibres sectors). The investigation will consider whether the aid meets the EU's Guidelines on National Regional Aid for 2007-13. In particular, the Commission will investigate whether the scheme is designed to target specific difficulties particular to Saxony, whether it is proportionate to alleviating any such problems and whether the duration of the scheme is sufficiently limited.
