On June 10, 2013, the United States Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation ordered the centralization of six class action suits against Anheuser-Busch Cos. LLC. As previously discussed, class action suits were filed against Anheuser-Busch in California, Colorado, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas federal courts. The suits allege that Anheuser-Busch purposefully overstated the alcohol content of its malt beverage products in order to extract more units of product from starting batch ingredients.

Anheuser-Busch fought the grouping of the suits, but the panel found the cases to involve complex discovery and minimal overlap of counsel. The panel determined the centralization desirable in order to eliminate duplicative discovery, avoid inconsistent rulings, and to conserve available resources. Judge Donald C. Nugent in the Northern District of Ohio will now oversee the litigation.
