Invensys Process Systems (IPS) has been chosen by the Department of Energy’s National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) to develop a simulator for an integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plant with carbon capture and storage technology. The hope is that the simulator will help the DOE in its goal to develop new clean coal power plants. The simulator will be located at NETL’s headquarters in Morgantown, West Virginia. Tobias Scheele, IPS VP of Advanced Applications said, “Our partnership with the DOE is a significant step toward convincing global leaders that clean-coal power plants can be operated safely and effectively. Our high-fidelity simulation of the IGCC process will allow operations personnel to see exactly how the IGCC plant will behave.”
