German customers of Deutsche Telekom (DT) will soon be able to access IP-based television (IPTV) services and various multimedia offerings through a collaborative agreement between DT and Motorola that was announced last Saturday. Motorola will supply IPTV-ready set top boxes for DT’s “T-Home Entertain” service as part of the contract, the terms of which were not disclosed. The device will enable subscribers to access premium sporting content in high-definition as well as standard definition digital video content. Two-way IP capability will also be built into devices to enable time shifting, multicasting and video on demand. As a Motorola official anticipated “working with [DT] to provide innovative TV services . . . while further expanding our leadership in IPTV,” a DT spokesman explained: “as our customers become ever more sophisticated in their media consumption habits, we chose Motorola’s set-tops to ensure we provide our customers with the best possible TV service, on-demand and in high definition.”
