Not wanting to be left out of the data security action, on August 8, the New York Attorney General announced a settlement with online eyeware retailer Provision Supply, LLC, doing business as, over a data breach on its website.  According to the Attorney General, an unauthorized third party accessed the website, exposing over 25,000 credit card numbers and other cardholder data.  The AG alleged that the company violated New York law by failing to notify affected customers and various government agencies about the breach and by misrepresenting the safety and security of the website.  The settlement requires the company to bolster its data security and pay $100,000 in penalties.
