The Joint Forum (comprised of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the International Organization of Securities Commissions and the International Association of Insurance Supervisors) recently published its finalised report on longevity risk transfer (LRT). This sets out recommendations (aimed at policymakers and supervisors) to promote the orderly functioning of such markets. These include (a) reviewing rules and regulations regarding quantification, handling and disclosure of longevity risk, (b) international and cross-sectoral communication and cooperation of supervisors in relation to LRT and (c) taking steps to ensure that longevity risk holders have the skillsets and experience to manage it appropriately.
