The Finnish Competition and Consumer Authority (“FCCA”) approved the proposed acquisition of Digi TV Plus Oy by DNA Oy (“DNA”) without conditions, after an in-depth investigation.

The FCCA investigated the effects on competition in the markets for the retail provision of pay TV services, the procurement of pay TV services and the market for television broadcasting. According to the FCCA, both parties to the acquisition are strong operators in the market for retail provision of pay TV services. In addition, DNA is a strong operator in the markets for mobile and broadband services. However, the FCCA found that the parties to the acquisition are not each other’s closest competitors in the market for retail provision of pay TV services and DNA will continue to face competition from other operators in this market also after the acquisition. Further, as regards the market for television broadcasting, the FCCA found that the acquisition might even increase competition. Therefore, the FCCA concluded that the acquisition would not significantly impede effective competition in the Finnish market or any significant part thereof.
