From 6 April 2010, the NMPA, which is the earliest age at which a member of a UK registered pension scheme, occupational or personal, can normally draw their pension, will increase from 50 to 55.

There will be two exceptions to this which are:

  1. Ill health pensions, members of which will still be able to receive early payment of their pensions whether or not they have reached the NMPA; and
  2. Members with protected pension ages who had an unqualified right on 5 April 2006 to take their pensions between the ages of 50 and 55.
