A bill (A3289) introduced on October 6, 2008 would provide for harsh penalties for businesses that knowingly or intentionally employ unauthorized aliens. An employer found to have intentionally employed unauthorized aliens would be subject to a five-year probationary period, be required to terminate all unauthorized aliens, and have its licenses suspended for 10 days or longer, at the court’s discretion. For a second violation during the probationary period the court will order that all licenses be revoked permanently. An employer found to have knowingly employed unauthorized aliens will be ordered to terminate the employment of all such aliens, be subject to a three-year probationary period, and could have its license suspended for up to 10 days.
