Today, the U.K. Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the U.S. Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to support more robust cooperation between the two regulators. The FSA is the United Kingdom’s single financial services and markets regulators and is responsible for regulating listed issuers and their corporate advisers. FINRA is the largest independent regulator for all securities firms doing business in the United States. The MOU is intended to facilitate the exchange of information on firms and individuals under common supervision of the FSA and FINRA, support collaboration on investigations and enforcement matters, and allow further sharing of regulatory techniques, including approaches to risk-based supervision of firms.
