70,000 fake products have been seized as a result of Operation ERMIS, a joint EU operation, the purpose of which was the detection of counterfeits sent in small shipments via mail and courier.
The goods which have been seized range from mobile phones, sunglasses, small car spare parts and pharmaceutical products. The vast majority of the aforementioned products came from the Far East, according to the European Commission report.
The risk those fake products posed is obvious, as they do not normally comply with the applicable health and security regulations. Once again, the effectiveness of a coordinated operation to fight fake products smuggling has been proven.
