Columbus-based American Municipal Power has signed a 10-year agreement with ?Quakertown, Pa., a borough about 30 miles north of Philadelphia, to provide electricity produced from methane gas in Ohio landfills, according to an article in the Bucks County (Pa.) Courier Times. Under the agreement, Quakertown can buy up to 3.4 megawatts (MW) of base load power, or roughly 40 percent of its daily needs, according to the article. AMP began selling landfill-generated electricity in 2001 and sources the power from landfill sites in Lorain, Ottawa and Mahoning counties with a combined generation capacity of 27 MW.
