• The government of Nova Scotia granted Forent Energy Ltd. a new exploration licence on the 466,000 acre Beechill Block. Combined with their 776,000 acre position on the Alton Block, Forent is now a leading oil and gas onshore land holder in Nova Scotia. The company will be exploring for both conventional and unconventional gas, as well as oil plays on the Beechill and Alton Blocks. Forent was selected by the Department of Energy on the basis of the value of the company's work commitment, technical and financial capabilities, and industry experience.
  • Gastem Inc. obtained an exploration permit to the Magdalen Islands covering approximately 20,000 hectares and situated in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The islands are situated in the Magdalen Basin and contain a large number of giant saliferous structures, similar to those found in the Gulf of Mexico. It is believed to be one of the largest potential areas for natural gas in Eastern Canada. In the coming months, Gastem will be undertaking a detailed review of studies of gas potential and seismic programs which were previously conducted in this area in advance of presenting an exploration program for approval by the Board.
