Lonnie Bunch is the founding Director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture…When built, it will occupy the last spot on the famous Mall and will tell the story of African American history…There is one little problem: Bunch must raise $500 million and then get the rest from Congress…In addition to raising money, the decisions are monumental…What is it supposed to look like?...Who should design it?...The museum already has a fighter plane from World War II flown by the elite African American pilots, the Tuskegee Airmen…As Bunch said, “How do you create an institution worthy of the African American experience? If we can do that, that’s success.”
