• On April 13, 2010, the Senate passed S 1749, the Cell Phone Contraband Act. Introduced by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Ca.), the bill would criminalize the possession of a cell phone by a person incarcerated in a federal corrections institution. In addition, an amendment proposed by Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-Oh.) would require the General Accounting Office to complete a study of the costs of providing inmate telephone service and the revenue derived therefrom within 90 days of enactment. The bill has been referred to the House Judiciary Committee for consideration.
  • On April 29, 2010, the House Commerce Committee will hold a hearing titled “The National Broadband Plan: Competitive Availability of Navigation Devices” at 10:00 am Eastern in 2123 Rayburn House Office Building. The list of witnesses was not published at the time of this release.
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee again has postponed the hearing titled “Combating Cyber Crime and Identity Theft in the Digital Age,” which was to be held April 21, 2010. The new date has not yet been announced.
