On 29 September the OFT published its clearance decision for the completed acquisition of four Allied Carpet stores by Carpetright.

The OFT had been concerned that the acquisition could cause a substantial lessening of competition in the supply of carpets in Solihull. In its decision, given on 13 September, the OFT concluded that that the impact of the merger on consumer harm would be likely to be limited and that the costs of a reference to the Competition Commission would be disproportionate to any benefits which may arise from a referral. As such, the OFT exercised it’s discretion, under the de minimis exception, not to refer the case to the Competition Commission.
