The Global Federation of Insurance Associations (GFIA) has requested that current presidency of the G20 Summit encourages international regulatory bodies to consider the impact of regulatory developments on insurers in their role as investors. In a letter to the Deputy Finance Minister of Russia, the GFIA points out that the insurance sector is a significant global institutional investor. However, the GFIA also highlights that an unintended consequence of regulations seeking to bolster financial stability can be to dissuade insurers from making long-term investments. The GFIA calls for this to be made clear in G20 discussions.
