The UN Environment Program (UNEP) has reported a 12% increase in investment in the Indian renewable energy sector during 2008. Wind energy experienced the largest growth in investment, with increases of 17% in 2008. Solar energy investment increased by $329m from 2007 to 2008. Biofuel investment underwent growth of $543 m, expanding fourfold between 2007 and 2008.

India under pressure to cut greenhouse gas emissions: Industrialised countries are calling for India to reduce gas emissions by 25-33% by 2020. Indian negotiators met with its counterparts from G77 in May 2009 where the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCC) had been tabled for discussion. Discussions continue in the last of the three preparatory meetings in preparation for the Climate Summit in Copenhagen in December.
