Is your business involved in selling goods and services to consumers via a website or by mail order? If so, a new online resource launched recently by the OFT may be of interest. The Distance Selling Hub, provides practical guidance and useful checklists for retailers and business support organisations on the law that governs buying and selling goods and services via the internet, phone, mail order, email, interactive TV or text.

Research undertaken by the OFT has revealed that many businesses are not complying fully with the Distance Selling Regulations, the principal piece of legislation that regulates shopping from a distance. The OFT is urging traders to review their sales and returns policies to make sure they are lawful as distance shoppers are entitled to different cancellation rights to those that apply to in-store purchases. The Hub provides a simple at-a-glance guide to the law, detailed explanations, practical examples, and training materials that have been developed to help businesses understand their obligations.

The launch of the Distance Selling Hub follows the launch last year of the OFT's Sale of Goods Act Hub.
