Thank you to those plan-it-law readers who sent me a link to the Localism Act. Just in time for bedtime reading too!

One of the many questions I have been asked during the course of the passage of the new Act is the timing of the revocation of Regional Strategies. Section 109 contains this provision and gives the Secretary of State power to revoke in whole or part any Regional Strategy, even all Regional Strategies. That power took effect yesterday on Royal Assent - but Regional Strategies remain in place until the Secretary of State makes an order to revoke.

With the environmental assessments (on RS revocations) now under consultation, and NPPF still in draft, Regional Strategies have some life left, but subject to what may come out of the consultations (and any litigation which may follow), their days are numbered.
